Diaz Attacks Trump, Talks Up Development in State of The Bronx Speech

MARBLE HILL — Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. on Thursday stressed the importance of cooperation and civility on issues ranging from development to education in his annual State of the Borough speech, but he made no mention of his rumored interest in running for mayor.

Diaz, who spoke Thursday at John F. Kennedy High School in Marble Hill, touted items he said his office had helped accomplish over the past year including raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour, providing lawyers for tenants and securing funding to rebuild Orchard Beach.

He attempted to strike a middle ground on the controversial issue of development in The Bronx, stressing that both affordable housing and mixed-income housing are necessary to make the borough a better place to live.
