There’s at least one group Mayor de Blasio won’t pander to — Yankees fans.Hizzoner, a die-hard Red Sox fan, refused to don a Yankees jacket and cap handed to him by Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. this morning as they kicked off a weeklong City Hall sojourn to the Boogie Down.
“Oh God. We have a situation,” the mayor said as Diaz unveiled the souvenirs. “Call security immediately.”But Diaz Jr. would not relent, holding up the goods and reminding the mayor: “Let’s go, you’re in the Bronx. But for de Blasio, putting on either article of clothing was a Highbridge too far.
“I’ll hold it up. I’ll hold it up with you. But I can’t put it on,” de Blasio said. “That’s asking too much. I’ll hold it. We’re gonna compromise.”As cameras flashed, the mayor covered his eyes with his hand and looked away, in dismay.
